Overview

The Mill Operator is a critical team member of the SMI family in ensuring the operation of the flour milling process and cleanliness of the mill buildings and premises.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Mill Operation

• Operate two flour mills
• Understand mill flow and milling process
• Inspect and troubleshoot end-product for quality attributes

Maintenance

• Routine inspection
• Clean equipment, machinery and workstations
• Ensure adequate grease and oil levels of equipment
• Perform magnet checks to ensure operability
• Assist in stopping, starting and monitoring machinery and remove any blockages

Shipping, Receiving and Packaging Responsibilities

• Assist in loading bagged and/or bulk finished product trailers and feed trailers
• Assist in operating flour bagging machine

Cleaning

• Clean equipment, machinery and workspaces
• Maintain cleanliness of all interior and exterior areas of the facility
• Collect and dispose of waste regularly

Documentation

• Document necessary records to meet essential requirements
• Ensure compliance with Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOPs)

Support

• Uphold food safety requirements
• Adhere to company policies, operating procedures and OSHA procedures
• Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement of operations

Job Requirements

• Authorized to work in the United States
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and
  supervision
• Ability to lift up to and in excess of fifty pounds consistently
• Ability to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot/cold weather
• Ability to accommodate stairs, ladders, heights in excess of 80 feet, working over
  head, bending, stooping and kneeling
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with company employees
• Ability to operate forklift, pallet jack and tractor after on-site training
• Organizational skills with the ability to provide accurate information consistently

Overview

The Facilities Maintenance Lead Technician is responsible for the ongoing preventative maintenance and repair work on the facility’s mechanical, electrical and other installed systems in the mill.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure efficient and smooth operation
• Inspect, maintain and repair specialized mill machinery and equipment
• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand and/or power tools and re-assemble equipment
• Maintain parts inventory
• Maintain service records
• Oversee chemical inventory and SDS binder related to maintenance duties
• Maintain clean, safe and orderly work site; accountability of all tools, parts and equipment utilized for repairs
• Maintain grounds surrounding mill in a clean and orderly manner including mowing, trimming, weed control and snow removal
• Identify projects requiring service by outside contractors and communicate to Mill Manager
• Respond to emergency maintenance issues after working hours, if necessary

• Demonstrate commitment to upholding food safety requirements in compliance with current SQF certification
• Ensure adherence to company policies, standard operating procedures and OSHA health and safety procedures
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement of our operations

Job Requirements

• Authorized to work in the United States
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Skill and ability to effectively use a variety of hand and power tools; must supply own basic hand tools
• Welding, electrical and general maintenance experience and/or training
• Ability to lift up to and in excess of one hundred (100) pounds
• Ability to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot weather and cold weather
• Ability to accommodate stairs and climb ladders up to eighty (80) feet
• Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with company employees
• Organizational skills with the ability to provide accurate information consistently

• Maintain proper fluid levels on the equipment used
• Complete various documentation to meet record-keeping requirements
• Comply with federal and state regulations related to transportation

• Maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with company employees
  and customers
• Ability to safely operate tractor-trailers and related equipment

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to sit and operate a vehicle for extended periods
• Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry up to and in excess of one hundred (100) pounds
  regularly
• Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and ascend/descend a ladder up to twenty (20) feet
• Willingness to work in varying weather and road conditions

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
• Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
• Participate in federally regulated mandatory drug test program
• Must have formal training for Forklift and Pallet Jack (on site training provided if needed)
