Mill Laborer - Day Shift (Palmyra)

Overview: The Mill Laborer is a critical team member of the SMI family in ensuring the operation of the flour milling process and cleanliness of the mill buildings and premises. This position is a safety sensitive position.

Shift Details: DAY SHIFT

  • Monday – Friday: 7:00 am – 4:30 pm
  • Location: Palmyra Mill. 338 North Railroad Street, Palmyra

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Mill Operation

  • Operate two flour mills
  • Understand mill flow and milling process
  • Inspect and troubleshoot end-product for quality attributes

Maintenance

  • Routinely inspect equipment, machinery and workstations
  • Ensure adequate grease and oil levels of equipment
  • Perform magnet checks to ensure operability
  • Assist in stopping, starting and monitoring machinery and remove any blockages

Shipping, Receiving and Packaging Responsibilities

  • Assist in loading bagged and/or bulk finished product trailers and feed trailers
  • Assist in operating flour bagging machine

Cleaning

  • Clean equipment, machinery, and workspaces
  • Maintain cleanliness of all interior and exterior areas of the facility
  • Collect and dispose of waste regularly

Documentation

  • Document necessary records to meet essential requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)

Support

  • Uphold food safety requirements
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement of operations
  • Adhere to company policies, operating procedures and OSHA procedures

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform duties in an independent manner with minimal direction and supervision
  • Ability to lift up to and in excess of 50 pounds consistently
  • Ability to work in environmental factors that include noise, dust, hot/cold weather
  • Ability to navigate stairs, ladders, heights more than 80 feet, work overhead, bend, stoop and kneel
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with company employees
  • Ability to operate forklift, pallet jack and tractor after on-site training
  • Organizational skills with the ability to provide accurate information consistently
  • Perform other duties as assigned to fulfill the overall purpose of the job and/or meet company needs
